1942, Tredje riket upplever sina glansdagar. Den tjeckiska motståndsrörelsen i London planerar sin mest avancerade militäroperation under Andra världskriget: Anthropoid. Två unga rekryter, Jozef Gabcik och Jan Kubis, skickas till Prag för att döda en av de grymmaste nazisterna – riksprotektorn Reinhard Heydrich, chef för SS, Gestapo och en av organisatörerna av det som kom att kallas för ”den slutgiltiga lösningen av judefrågan”, vilket innebar att alla europeiska judar skulle förintas. Filmen är baserad på en sann historia, och bygger på Laurent Binets intrikata dokumentärroman HHhH och handlar om ett av andra världskrigets mest omskrivna attentat, det mot Reinhard Heydrich, riksprotektor i Böhmen-Mähren och chef för Rikssäkerhets överstyrelsen, i Prag 27 maj 1942.
