Isdraken är ett familjeäventyr där vi får följa Mik, 11, en storstadskille som är livrädd för hundar och kan höra valars sång. Uppryckt från livet i stan med pappa och storebror blir Mik tvingad att resa till sin bohemiska faster i en by i Norrland. Där lär han sig fiska, träffar nya kompisar och sin första kärlek. Dessutom startar Mik och hans kompisar en riktig kattfabrik där de tjänar pengar på att lämna tillbaka borttappade katter. Men tyvärr så går inte allting som de tänkt sig och Mik blir bortslussad från sin faster till en fosterfamilj.
